The Orono Police Department is a progressive, full service law enforcement agency

Welcome to the website of the Orono Police Department. We hope that the information contained in these pages will provide a better understanding of our mission and the services that we provide.

The Orono Police Department is a progressive, full service law enforcement agency serving a community of approximately 9,500 residents. The Town of Orono is also home to the flagship campus of the University of Maine, which adds an additional 14,000 people to our community for the better part of each and every year. Our Department places strong emphasis on community partnerships and service with a main focus on quality of life issues within the Town of Orono. We take great pride in our ability to provide professional effective public safety service to residents, business owners and visitors to Orono.

The Orono Police Department is staffed with 15 full time employees. The Administration Division is comprised of the Chief of Police, the Captain and an Administrative Assistant. The Chief and Captain are responsible for the overall management and supervision of the department while the Administrative Assistant provides secretarial, record keeping and clerical support. The Patrol Division is staffed with 3 Sergeants and 7 Patrol Officers and they are the most visible in our community. In addition to regular patrol duties their assignments also include Field Training Officer, Crisis Intervention Team members, Accident Reconstructionist, Canine Officer and Domestic Violence Coordinator. Our department currently has one Detective who is responsible for investigating serious crimes and incidents requiring specialized investigation skills. We also have one officer who is assigned as a School Resource Officer whose time is divided between the three schools in our community.

We encourage public input or feedback and contact information is provided in this website for all members of our Department. We welcome any suggestions, comments, questions or concerns regarding the Orono Police Department. Thank you for visiting our website.
